Music
Equanimous by Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson and Jason Cropper, "My Name Is Jonas" is one of only a scattering of early Weezer tracks with a co-writing credit. Cropper came up with the song's fingerpicked intro, resulting in his merely official songwriting credit on a Weezer song until Van Weezer's "I've Thrown Information technology All Away." Cropper recalled the songwriting process in a 2019 interview with Yahoo! Entertainment: [vi]
| I got home from piece of work [at the Italian eatery], and I call back I was nevertheless wearing my cook's outfit. I picked upwards the guitar and played that first part of what became the intro to 'My Name Is Jonas,' and Pat [Wilson] said, 'Stop. Just do that. Just don't go along going to dissimilar chords, just practise those 3 notes, those three chords!' |
Cropper goes on to explicate how the song changed hands multiple times between his bandmates, a mode of writing that was used numerous times[7] during Wilson and Cuomo's "l Song Project." The l Song Project was an informal endeavor to collect 50 songs earlier convening the yet-unnamed Weezer for regular rehearsals, and "Jonas" was its last entry. Wilson turned Cropper's riff into the vocal'due south bones chord progression and structure, and then delivered it to Cuomo for lyrics, melodies and solos.
Demoing and release
The bridge of "Jonas" was demoed nether the title "Port O'Jonas," separately from the residual of the vocal. This more often than not-instrumental sketch, included on Cuomo's Don Slacks demo record, features a harmonica solo, the refrain "the workers are going home," and a variation on Cropper's fingerpicking intro that would serve every bit the song's eventual solo. Fans take also speculated that portions of "Jonas" are included in the eighth runway of Rivers'south Opera, a loose, unstructured collection of demos spanning 1991 to 1992.
At one point, the song was erroneously named by Geffen Records as the Blueish Album's third unmarried. Before "Say It Own't So" was officially chosen as a unmarried past consensus among the band, Todd Sullivan, and the characterization, Geffen had printed upwardly limited runs of a "My Proper noun is Jonas" one-rail promo CD, and distributed them, primarily in Canada[8]. These CDs are amongst some of the rarer Weezer collectibles.

My name is Jonas
I'm carrying the wheel
Thanks for all you've shown us
But this is how we feel
Come sit next to me
Pour yourself some tea
Simply like grandma made
When we couldn't detect sleep
Things were amend then
Once but never again
We've all left the den
Let me tell you lot 'bout information technology
The choo-choo train left right on time
A ticket cost merely your mind
The commuter said "Hey man, nosotros go all the manner"
Of course we were willing to pay
My proper noun is Wepeel
I got a box full of your toys
They're fresh out of batteries
Only they're still makin' noise, makin' noise
Tell me what to do
At present the tank is dry out
Now this wheel is flat
And you know what else?
Guess what I received
In the mail today
Words of deep concern
From my little brother
The building's not goin' as he planned
The foreman has injured his manus
The dozer volition non clear a path
The driver swears he learned his math
The workers are going dwelling!
The workers are going abode!
The workers are going home!
The workers are going domicile!
Yeah!
The workers are going dwelling!
The workers are going home!
The workers are going dwelling!
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
